People who don’t respect others’ boundaries have a basic attitude toward life: I should be able to do what I want.

A spouse that resists boundaries does this because they really do feel the limit — any limit — is unreasonable, unfair and hurtful. So they’re enraged that their spouse would be so mean as to say no in some area of life. The request for the resistant spouse to respect saying no feels like hate. It’s normal to be angry when someone treats us unfairly, but it is immature to be angry when our spouse sets a limit with us for a legitimate reason. I am going to help you in your relationship with your spouse when you need to set boundaries.
